Malcolm Turnbull uses UN speech to share story of Aliir Aliir
The Prime Minister has told the world the story of Sydney defender Aliir Aliir.
Addressing the United Nations, Malcolm Turnbull said the Sudanese refugee’s rise to the AFL highlighted the strength of Australia’s migration system.
The PM’s speech in New York focused on the need for strong border protection and our humanitarian intake.
Aliir was born in a Kenyan refugee camp to Sudanese parents in 1994 before moving to Australia seven years later.
He’ll line up for the Swans in Friday night’s preliminary final.
‘He’s become a role model in our multi-cultural nation, especially for young people in Sydney,’ Mr Turnbull said.
