Bob told Neil Mitchell a crane cable snapped, causing a 10 tonne compressor to fall six metres onto concrete.
“Apparently they can’t start the refinery without the compressor,” he said.
In a statement, Viva Energy Group Limited said repairs will take three months to complete.
During that time period, the company expects a loss of between $25 million and $35 million per month.
Maintenance turnaround is expected to conclude by the end of June, at which time unaffected units will be available to restart.
Viva claims the incident won’t affect fuel prices, but several tipsters told Neil Mitchell they believe it’ll have an impact on prices.
