Lucky escape for 92-year-old after car plunges into the Yarra River

A 92-year-old woman has made an extraordinary escape after her car plunged into the Yarra River.

The woman’s Mercedes E200 clipped another car on Alexandra Avenue in Toorak before crashing down a steep embankment and into the river at about 7pm on Sunday.

She managed to get out of the vehicle, which was partially submerged in the water in knee-deep water, and the driver of the other car rushed to her aid.
