Tennis Australia denies it’s seeking ‘loopholes’ for unvaccinated players
Tennis Australia says Novak Djokovic will be playing at the Australian Open.
But it’s still unclear whether he’s vaccinated against COVID-19.
Djokovic headlined the official list of entries, released on Wednesday afternoon.
He will become the most successful men’s player of all-time if he can win a record 10th Australian Open, which would be his 21st major singles title.
Tennis Australia has denied reports it is seeking “loopholes” to allow unvaccinated players to be subject to more lenient medical exemptions than the general population.
“Any suggestion that Tennis Australia is seeking ‘loopholes’ within this process is simply untrue,” the statement read.
“Adjudicating on medical exemptions is the domain of independent medical experts. We are not in a position to influence this process, and nor would we.”
Ross and Russel discussed the issue with leading tennis reporter Ben Rothenberg on Wednesday morning (Australian time).
