An elderly man has sustained serious injuries after falling through a manhole in Geelong.

The 86-year-old landed up in hospital after falling through the poorly-maintained pit on Tuesday, which is supposed to be managed by Telstra.

Ian’s father-in-law Ross told Jacqui Felgate he was mystified why the structure wasn’t being maintained.

“It’s a death waiting to happen to be honest,” he said on 3AW Drive.

According to a witness, a woman also broke two ankles falling through the same manhole on Monday.
