Local football league rocked as player tests positive to COVID-19
A player from the Newport senior football team has tested positive to coronavirus.
The Rumour File this morning heard a club had notified all its senior players that a member of the opposition team they played on Saturday had returned a positive COVID-19 result.
The president of the Newport Football Club has since confirmed to 3AW Mornings that a senior player tested positive yesterday.
The team played West Footscray at Shorten Reserve at 2.15pm on Saturday.
The infected player began to feel unwell this week and did not attend club training on Tuesday.
He informed the club of his test result yesterday, and the Newport Football Club has contacted players and told them to get tested and isolate.
The Western Region Football League has also been informed.
The Newport club has not yet heard from the Health Department.
