LISTEN: Kaylee McKeown makes history, ousting American rival in blockbuster 100m backstroke showdown
Kaylee McKeown has succesfully defended her 100m Olympic backstroke title, ousting American rival Regan Smith in an Olympic record time.
Billed as one of the races of the meet, McKeown’s world record was broken by Smith in US trials last month, but the Australia held her nerve to win in a time of 57.33.

Australia’s 4×200 team also won a medal on the night, taking home the country’s first bronze medal in a race won by the all-conquering Great Britain duo.

In other news on night four of competition at the La Defence Arena, Kyle Chalmers, Mollie O’Callaghan and Shayna Jack are all safely through to their respective 100m freestyle finals, while defending 200m breaststroke Olympic champion Zac Stubblety-Cook is also through to the final.
