Lisa Wilkinson leaves The Today Show, effective immediately

TV star Lisa Wilkinson has split with The Today Show, effectively immediately.

And she’s since been unveiled by Channel 10 as a new host on The Project.

In a major shock, Wilkinson announced on Monday night she was leaving the Channel 9 morning show.

Channel 9 said it was “unable to meet the expectations” of Wilkinson while negotiating a new contract.

3AW Breakfast’s showbiz guru Peter Ford said the “bottom line” was Channel 9 refused to pay Wilkinson the same as co-host Karl Stefanovic.

“I don’t know that this is really interpreted as a victory for feminism because a) it was Channel 9 who ended the negotiations and said let’s part ways and secondly, she’s gone to the third rating network, for less money and a vague role,” he said.
