Liberal Party should follow Labor’s lead when it comes to leadership, says Tom Elliott
3AW Drive host Tom Elliott says the Liberal Party should follow Labor’s lead to stop future speculation about party leadership ? change the rules.
Malcolm Turnbull is the new Prime Minister of Australia after challenging Tony Abbott for the Liberal Party leadership.
While it remains to be seen whether it will be a good move for the party, Tom Elliott said he was over the constant change of leadership in Australia.
Labor changed its rules to make it near impossible for a leader to be removed prior to an election after the continual drama surrounding Labor leaders Kevin Rudd and Julia Gillard.
Tom said the government should consider introducing similar rules.
‘I think the Liberals would be well served to try and put this leadership speculation to bed fairly soon,’ he explained.
‘Whether they can change the rules about how they elect a leader? Well, time will tell.’
