Leigh Matthews’ advice for Western Bulldogs and coach Luke Beveridge

Coaching great Leigh Matthews has urged the Western Bulldogs to fully back coach Luke Beveridge ahead of a critical season.

The Dogs will be hoping to return to finals in 2024, with their campaign beginning against Melbourne on Sunday.

Matthews said he had a “back them or sack them” mantra when it comes to senior coaches.

“His status as a coach at the Bulldogs should be fairly entrenched,” Matthews said of Beveridge.

“As coaches (for me), you either back them or sack them. St Kilda are totally backing Ross Lyon and Essendon are totally backing Brad Scott.

“Back them or sack them, don’t be somewhere in between.”
