A suspicious-looking text message from Linkt has set off alarm bells for many, but the SMS is no scam.

Neil Mitchell has received almost 100 messages from concerned listeners who’ve received a message from Linkt asking them to update their payment details.

“We’re updating our payment system on 24 October to provide extra security and make payments quicker. Before this date, you’ll need to edit the payment details on your account, as from 24 October we won’t be able to process payments from the saved details of your Mastercard,” the first line of the message reads.

Technology expert Geoff Quattromani says the message does read like a scam — but it’s not.

“When you read it there’s a sense of urgency, they’re asking for payment details, alarm bells should be ringing,” he told Neil Mitchell.

“The good thing, at least, that Linkt has done is they’re not including a link in that particular SMS.”

Transurban has confirmed it is updating its payment system this month and some customers are being asked to update their payment details.

There have been a recent string of scam texts purporting to be from Linkt.
