Prominent Melbourne legal identity David Galbally QC says he expects Novak Djokovic to be allowed to stay in Australia, despite the ongoing saga surrounding his visa and the COVID-19 vaccine exemption he was granted to enter the country.

But he said the tennis star wasn’t over the line just yet.

“He’s still got a couple of hurdles to get over,” he said on 3AW Mornings.

“The false declaration is a very serious offence it carries a penalty of four years imprisonment.

“There are other penalties open to a court, but it’s regarded as being a serious offence.”
