Lauren Jackson calls for better education for athletes using social media
The issue of athletes using social media is a thorny one.
Some believe that athletes would rather Tweet than compete, and social media distraction has been blamed for costing Australians medals at the London Olympics.
It is believed the AOC is considering placing heavy restrictions on athletes’ use of social media at the Rio Olympics.
But veteran Olympian Lauren Jackson wouldn’t support a ban; rather, she believes athletes should be better educated on how to best use social media.
‘Not enough athletes are brought up knowing how to use it properly,’ Jackson told Sports Today on Tuesday.
‘I remember in London there were a few times where my teammates were affected by that, and it was distracting.’
