LATEST: Four people have been injured after a shocking smash on the West Gate Bridge.

All outbound lanes have since reopened to traffic.

It’s understood a silver Ford Falcon sedan was travelling along the West Gate Freeway near Williamstown Road when it collided with a truck just after 10.30am on Tuesday.

“There’s a number of individuals lying there being attended to by the public, because the ambulance and the police just can’t get through because the roads are entirely blocked,” one witness told 3AW immediately after the smash.

The driver of the car, a 21-year-old Wyndham Vale man, was taken to hospital where he remains in a stable condition.

A male passenger of the car was taken to hospital with critical injuries.

Three other males, all aged in their 20s, were arrested at the scene after the vehicle they were in was suspected of being stolen as it was displaying false registration plates.

They have since been released pending further enquiries.
