Lancefield bushfire report released
An investigation into the Lancefield fire which destroyed homes and burnt through thousands of hectares of land has found inadequate resources and poor planning contributed to the fire getting out of control.
The inquiry into the blaze has made 22 recommendations, all of which have been accepted by the Andrews Government.
The inquiry examined the circumstances that led to the planned burn breaking containment lines in early October this year.
The 34 page report – released to the public this morning – has found the complex nature of the planned burn was not evident to planners.
It’s also found the levels of resourcing on the burn was minimal and inadequate given the seasonal outlook.
Among the recommendations….
- A review of planning processes.
- Better engagement with the community.
- Burning be considered as just one of many options in managing fuel loads.
