One of the key infectious diseases experts involved in Australia’s COVID-19 response has shared his review of Chief Health Officer Brett Sutton’s pandemic performance.

It comes after Professor Sutton’s resignation from the role.

Director of Monash Infectious Diseases at Monash Health, Professor Allen Cheng, who was co-chair of the Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (ATAGI) until the end of 2021, chair of the Advisory Committee of vaccines for the Therapeutic Goods Administration and was seconded to the Victorian Health Department as Deputy Chief Health Officer, says Professor Sutton “made very difficult decisions at a time when everything was upside down and a lot of things were uncertain”.
