Kate McCarthy kicks Goal of the Year contender
This will be hard to top in 2017!
There’s a new clubhouse leader for the Goal Of The Year after Brisbane Lions midfielder Kate McCarthy kicked a five-bounce run and carry goal against Collingwood at the weekend.
Playing at South Pine Sports Complex, McCarthy collected the ball in the back-half of the centre square before turning on the jets and showcasing her explosive speed, bolting down the middle of the ground with five bounces and sealing the deal from inside the goal square.
A former sprinter, McCarthy has been touted as one of the quickest players in the AFL Women’s competition exampled by Saturday’s five-bounce goal and is also believed to be the first person to play football at the highest level with a pacemaker.
The Lions ran away four-point winners and remain undefeated this season, sitting second on the ladder, with cellar dwellers Collingwood still yet to register a win.
