‘Just trying to survive’: Australians share chilling accounts of what’s happening in Ukraine
Russia has seized control of former nuclear power plant Chernobyl, the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant and an airfield near Kyiv, as violent bloodshed in Ukraine continues.
Australian photojournalist in Ukraine, Bryce Wilson, says he’s “just been trying to survive”.
“I woke up at I think something like 4.30am because there were explosions outside my apartment,” he told Ross and Russel.
“I was in the streets with a teammate of mine and a missile went over my head.
“I still can’t really make sense of it.
“Russia has invaded Ukraine and they are now killing civilians on Ukrainian territory.”
Mr Wilson was planning to travel from eastern Ukraine to Kyiv, but due to intense fighting, it’s now not safe to travel, so he’s bunkered down in central Ukraine.

Another Australian in Ukraine, Ken Herbert, who lives in Kyiv, plans to try and flee to Hungary or Poland.
“I believe that this isn’t even the full force of what Russia can send. The number of troops they have on the border doesn’t match what is currently within Ukraine,” he told Neil Mitchell.
“They can still send at lot more at us yet.”
