John Worsfold appointed coach of Essendon, will speak with Jake Carlisle
New Essendon coach John Worsfold has revealed he plans on speaking with want-away Bomber Jake Carlisle about his future.
But Worsfold, who was officially unveiled as James Hird’s successor on Monday, told 3AW he wouldn’t be begging the talented key-position prospect to stay.
‘I’ll have a chat to him,’ Worsfold said on Sports Today.
‘I know often if a player has made their mind up that they need to move – for whatever reason – sometimes any change to what’s happening may impact that a little bit… but it really depends on what his true reasons are for wanting to start fresh.
‘I’ll have a chat to him and see where that’s at, but I won’t be trying to convince him to stay.
‘I’ll be just finding out if a new coach changes his view point in any way.’

With a large chunk of the playing group still having the WADA cloud hanging over their head, Worsfold said one of his initial aims was to get his players enjoying football again.
‘From a person standing back from afar, I’ve felt for the Essendon players,’ Worsfold said at a media conference on Monday.
‘They probably haven’t had that love of the game as much as what they should have.
‘That’s certainly an aim ? to make sure they love turning up to training, they love playing the game and they love representing the Essendon football club.’
