John Burns apologises for drink-driving offence
3AW presenter John Burns has apologised on-air after losing his licence for a drink-driving offence.
Burns recorded a reading of 0.061 on the way home from a charity speaking engagement late last year.
Due to a prior breach of 0.051 within the past 10 years, he must appear at court to determine the length of the suspension.
“There are no excuses,” Burns said on-air this morning. “I am ashamed of this.”
“I know that in our position we are expected to set an example and, given we report on the indiscretions of others, I leave myself open to pretty harsh criticism and deservedly so.”
Stephen Beers, 3AW Operations Director said: “I am extremely disappointed in John Burns with his recent drink-driving offence.”
“3AW supports all efforts of Victoria Police and the TAC to improve road safety. Drink-driving is a major problem and we take seriously our role in spreading the safe driving message. To have one of our presenters exceed the limit is unacceptable.
“We are dealing with this issue with John and will await the outcome of his court appearance for further action.”
