Jeff Kennett calls 3AW to savage ‘absurd’ deal between government and Transurban

A fired-up Jeff Kennett has been prompted to call 3AW to vent about the government’s “absurd” deal with Transurban and the West Gate Tunnel.

It’s been revealed the bill for the project has ballooned to $6.7 billion from the initial figure of $5.5 billion.

But the government has defended the deal.

Mr Kennettt rang 3AW Drive on Tuesday, telling Nick McCallum the government would have “no idea” if it was getting a good deal or not.

“Because they haven’t put it out for tender,” the former Premier said.

“It’s absolutely absurd.

“Transurban is a very good company and very, very clever, but they’ve clearly got the government in their pocket.”
