If you’re one of those people that loves heading to the local butcher and selecting their leg of lamb for the Sunday roast, then Victor Churchill is for you.

It’s the Willy Wonka of butchers.

And the best bit… you can eat there! Behind the beautiful display cabinets that contain some of the best looking cuts of meat you will ever see, and past the rounded wooden carving blocks, is a stunning white marble bar.

It only seats 12 people, so you need to book.

At the front of this meat-lovers paradise is naturally, a butcher’s shop.

It’s a veritable candy shop for meatlovers.

Wagyu sits alongside lamb racks, gourmet sausages and dry aged rump.

You could just stand here all day and just look at the meat.

We started with sourdough and the most delicious slab of whipped butter.

House cured salmon gravalax sits alongside an excellent celeriac remoulade and rye.

Half a dozen oysters are served on ice with a red wine & eschalot mignonette.

But of course we came for the steaks. And they did not disappoint.

We shared the steak frites.

The 250g Eye fillet ($65) perfectly cooked medium rare and seasoned to perfection, is served with a small green salad and crunchy frites on the side, along with bearnaise sauce.

Our wagyu came as four thick marbled slices, chewy and just the right amount of fat through the meat.

There’s a tank with live lobsters, served half or whole with garlic butter and parsley, as well as a porchetta or half chicken from the rotisserie.

Whether it’s a business lunch or a boozy one, these are some of the best cuts of meat you’ll find in Melbourne.

Sitting at the bar for 12 is an experience, the service was fabulous and the view – well, if you love meat….Victor Churchill is heaven.

Pro tip: pick up the same cut of steak to take home for dinner tomorrow.
