An industrial estate nestled next to the Metropolitan Ring Road in Thomastown is not the place you’d think you’d find a cheesery — but it’s the home of That’s Amore.

That’s Amore supplies cheese to restaurants and delis across Australia and also run cooking classes and cheese festivals from the huge Thomastown factory. But I came for the deli, and more specifically the porchetta.

The cafe is basically a small area with chairs and tables in the middle of the cheesery. There are fake cows in the carpark and a statue of a pig greets you at the front door. It’s FUN and TASTY.

Let me tell you about the porchetta — there are multiple options for the pork, you can have it on its own with potatoes and salad or in a ciabatta roll. I went with the Sofia. My roll was stuffed with tender juicy pork and layers of crispy crackling and potatoes jammed in along with melted caciocavallo cheese and plenty of lemon zest. You won’t regret it!

Other panini options include the Donatella — pork sausage, pickles, mayo tomato and smoked scamorza — or the Ferrari, which is chicken schnitzel and herbed ricotta. We also tried Georgio’s cotoletta and the ricotta gnocchi. Both were delicious.

We also had some chinati and Italian rosé.

After lunch you can shop an amazing array of Italian deli items and wholesale cheese. And of course, don’t leave without a box of cannoli!

Pro tip: if you don’t like cheese this one isn’t for you.
