Jacqui Felgate heads out for ‘dumplings for Dan’
With the Premier in China this week, I thought why not head out for a dumpling for Dan!?
So what makes a great Yum Cha?
There are so many delicious options right across Victoria but I couldn’t go past Little Bourke Street.
We chose Crystal Jade.
Located in the heart of Chinatown, you enter via an elevator or the stairs and wait to be seated. It’s old school.
There are three sittings and there’s a one hour limit for diners.
They don’t have the traditional trolleys but service was super quick and everything was piping hot.
You order from a paper card and tick the box for the dish you want. We dined on Thursday lunchtime and had to wait for a table – it was packed.
We had all the usual faves – crystal prawn dumplings, pork dumplings and some moorish ginger prawn dumplings. All were excellent.
They were fresh, the filling was top notch and you can take your pick from 10 different varieties.
I couldn’t go past a serve of peking duck – four delicious pancakes and plenty of thick juicy duck.
My dining partner went the wagyu beef with black bean and rice noodles – and I kept snacking on dumplings.
Crystal Jade is a classic Melbourne Yum Cha destination. Authentic food, no frills and a whole lot of fun. Next time I’ll bring the kids.
