Jacob Weitering’s emotional reaction to beloved teammate’s inspirational return

Jacob Weitering has fought back tears while discussing Sam Docherty’s inspirational return to football.

In one of footy’s more remarkable stories, Docherty managed to play in the first game of the season, just over six months after being diagnosed with testicular cancer for a second time.

And he was one of Carlton’s best in the club’s 25-point win over Richmond, racking up 26 disposals and kicking a crucial team-lifting goal as the Blues beat the Tigers for the first time since 2013.

Speaking on 3AW, Weitering got emotional when asked about Docherty’s return.

“He is just something else,” Weitering said.

“Sorry, I’m just getting a little bit emotional.

“He is an incredible person.”
