Matthew Lloyd is convinced Melbourne’s decision to allow Christian Petracca to skip their upcoming best and fairest awards night will “burn them” in the long run.

Just weeks after rampant speculation about his future, it has emerged the Demons have allowed the star midfielder to head overseas on a training camp and miss the important club event.

Lloyd told 3AW Football Melbourne’s decision on Petracca could set a dangerous precedent moving forward.

“I just think they’re setting themselves a precedent,” he said.

“It’s going to burn them.”
