“It’s a waste”: Calls for deer to become dog food

There are calls for deer to be harvested and processed for pet food in Victoria, after a recent explosion in the animal’s population.

The National Party want to see deer become dog food, but Cole Brumley from the Australian Deer Association goes a step further, telling Ross and John humans should be able to eat it too.

“At the moment you’ve got deer being shot in large numbers and left to rot, and we’re against that,” Mr Brumley said.

“It’s a waste, it’s good meat, it’s lean, it’s good for you.

“We’d like to see them used in restaurants.”
