‘It’s a disgrace’: Victorians warned against going to Queensland after woman is blindsided by COVID-19 rules
Victorians are being warned against travelling to Queensland by a man who says his sister was blindsided by the state’s draconian COVID-19 protocols.
She won’t be home for Christmas because of it.
Phil got in touch with 3AW Mornings about his family’s situation on Friday.
His sister travelled from Tasmania to Queensland for work on Sunday morning.
She “checked in” while grabbing a coffee.
She got a text on Wednesday informing her she had been deemed a close contact and was told to get tested and isolate.
That test has come back negative. She is fully vaccinated.
“Today she is still in isolation and about to be picked up and put in hotel quarantine for 14 days,” Phil said.
“She’s been deemed a close contact, not casual contact, and won’t be home for Christmas.”
He urged Victorians to think twice before heading to the Sunshine state over the holiday period.
“She wouldn’t have gone to Queensland, had we known,” Phil said.
“That’s why I’m telling your listeners.”
Phil said his sister’s work colleagues, who did not check-in, were already back in Tasmania and don’t have to isolate.
He said would no longer check-in because of fear of being put into isolation himself.
“It’s a disincentive to use that system completely,” he said.
