‘It’s a bleak future for Melburnians’: The push for a pause on incoming migrants
Research by the Institute of Public Affairs (IPA) indicates close to 60 per cent of Australians are not happy with the idea of a migration surge in the country.
Up to 400,000 migrants are set to enter the country in the next year, but the IPA Deputy Executive Director Daniel Wild has called for a pause in migration intake, and instead prioritise pensioners, veterans and students into vacant jobs.
“We need to have a pause, a breather, to make sure we can accommodate this influx of population growth, because Melbourne is very rapidly becoming unlivable,” Mr Wild told Neil Mitchell.
