Former Brisbane Lions ace Jason Akermanis has re-opened old wounds with the AFL, telling 3AW’s Footy: Then and Now podcast league headquarters did what it could to stop the Lions winning four premierships in a row in 2004.

Brisbane was forced to play a “home” preliminary final against Geelong that season and while they ultimately won that game, the Lions ran out of legs against Port Adelaide in the grand final the following week after being forced to travel between Melbourne and Brisbane in consecutive weeks, despite earning the right to host a home final at the Gabba.

“It was an inside job,” the outspoken Brownlow medallist told 3AW’s Footy: Then and Now podcast.
