‘Indescribable’ stench wafting through Shepparton and Mooroopna
Mooroopna and Echuca residents are living with an “indescribable” foul smell after devastating flooding.
“As soon as you get up in the morning and go outside it’s like stepping into a sewer,” Mooroopna resident Ben told Neil Mitchell.
He says a park behind his house has become a lake and fish there are starting to die.
There are also concerns sewage may be in the water.
“The area’s sewer mains are just venting poo fumes everywhere, it’s just mindblowing,” he said.
Echuca man Nick Dean says there’s also a foul stench there, with dead fish floating by, and yabbies and crayfish crawling onto properties due to the low oxygen content in the water.
“We’ve been warned that there is sewage in the system,” he told Neil Mitchell.
