‘I was like the class clown’s assistant!’:Comedian Akmal Saleh opens up on 3AW Afternoons

Breaking into the comedy scene, Akmal Saleh thought it would be wise to refer to himself as Peter. 

He told Denis Walter that way, the audience might not pick up on his Egyptian roots.

Saleh shared how well he did in his first ever gig – using jokes from another comedian.

‘The audience loved me but the comedians hated me!’

Recently he’s been on I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here – which he likens to life in a prison.

As for life growing up, he says often people are surprised when he tells them he wasn’t quite the life of the party.

‘I was more like the class clown’s assistant,’ he said.

‘It’s a weird thing, you talk to a lot of comedians you’ll find they are really quiet and introverted.’
