3AW Mornings host Tom Elliott is happy with January 26th remaining as the date for Australia Day, however he is a fan of a new date proposal made by an Australian rapper.

Rapper Rulla Kelly-Mansell thinks the new date for Australia Day should be on September 25, the date Cathy Freeman won her historic 400m gold medal at the 2000 Sydney Olympics.

“It was a sporting event that really united Australia,” Elliott said on 3AW Mornings.

“Most people can remember what they were doing that night, everybody stopped when Cathy Freeman ran and won the 400 metres.”

The rapper himself then joined the program to explain his thought process, and how significant Cathy Freeman’s moment was in Australian history.

“For Cathy Freeman to hold both flags, I think was a very powerful moment,” Mr Kelly-Mansell told Tom Elliott.
