A new Victorian Koala Management Strategy has been slammed as weak and indefensible by the president of the Koala Clancy foundation, Janine Duffy.

Koala habitats in Victoria have been under threat due to climate change, native forest logging and bushfires.

“They can take out huge areas of forest, and koalas do need quite a lot of forest actually,” Ms Duffy told Ross and Russel.

The new management strategy put out by the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP), according to Ms Duffy, fails to address the threats that koalas currently face.

“I don’t even know what it’s for, it’s terrible,” Ms Duffy said.

“It’s not dealing with what Victorians want.”
