Hunt for attackers after brutal assault with an axe in Malvern East

The search continues for a group of men behind a brutal assault in Malvern East.

Three to five men broke into a house near Chadstone Shopping Centre about 11:30am yesterday, one of them attacking a male occupant with an axe.

The suspects fled in a nearby car

The 24-year-old victim sat on his front steps, covered in blood, until paramedics arrived, taking him to the Alfred hospital in a serious condition.

Neighbours say nothing like it has happened in their street before.

Police say the victim knows his attackers, and are appealing for witnesses to come forward as the man hunt continues today.
