A national taskforce has proposed a target ATAR of 80 for future teachers in order to lift teaching standards in the country, with a former principal believing it’s a great idea but a poor strategy.

Education and School Leadership Expert and former principal, Adam Voigt, suggests there are other ways to increase teaching standards and make it more attractive to bring more people into the industry.

Press PLAY to hear how teaching can become more attractive

“Terrific worthy aspiration, terrible strategy,” Mr Voigt told Ross and Russel.

“When we’ve got an environment where teachers are in high demand but incredibly low supply, cutting off that supply even further right now doesn’t do the job, so we can get the outcome but we got to do it by making teaching more attractive.”
