The president of the Victorian Association of State Secondary Principals admits schools will be relying on families to ensure COVID-19 remains out of the classroom as much as possible.

But Colin Axup said that’s already the case for other illnesses.

It’s been recommended all students are tested twice a week at home before going to school to see if they have COVID-19.

But it’s not compulsory.

Neil Mitchell asked Mr Axup whether the system would work, given that is the case.

“It’s the same when a child has any sickness that would preclude them from going to school,” he said.

“We’ve always relied on parents.”
