Research from the Grattan Energy Program has found most Victorian households who rapidly transition to electric appliances will save about thousands over a decade with the introduction of the SEC.

Director of the Energy Program at the Grattan Institute, Tony Wood, says The Herald Sun’s claim families won’t “realise savings” before 50 years have passed after a complete retrofit are dependent on individual circumstances.

“If you’re building a new home, if you’re making major renovations to existing homes, then you’re going to buy new appliances anyway and so the issue is, which is cheaper?” he told Jacqui Felgate.
