How much money should you give a couple on their wedding day?

It is becoming more and more common for couples to ask for cash over presents when they get married.

Which raises the question: how much should you give?

Is it related to how much you earn? How good the wedding is? How much you like the couple?

Finance guru Scott Haywood told Tom Elliott it should cover the cost of your night.

“You can easily get online or ring the venue and ask how much it would cost,” Scott said.

“If you have a plus-one, you have to pay for them as well.”

But Tom said that makes the wedding sound too commercial.
