The byes rounds have been a constant talking point throughout the 2024 season – and Matthew Lloyd says there’s a better way for the AFL to structure the season moving forward.

As a result of Opening Round – where only four games were played – additional bye rounds have been played this year on top of the traditional mid-season byes.

Matthew Lloyd says the league should look at making this year’s Opening Round format as part of a full slate of matches to start the 2025 season.

“I just wonder how we can do (the bye rounds) better,” Lloyd said on Wide World of Sports.
