Former Prime Minister Scott Morrison has raised eyebrows after telling followers of a Pentecostal Church in Perth not to trust government.

Tom Elliott says there is no doubt trust in politicians and traditional institutions was at an all-time low.

Bill Browne, Senior Researcher in the Australia Institute’s Democracy & Accountability Program, agreed.

“There is definitely reason to believe there is a growing sceptism in our society,” he said.

“In some regards, that’s good – we are hearing more about the bad things and reacting accordingly.

“Of course, the negative side of that is that with a loss of trust in these institutions, we lose our way and can be unable to work as a society.”
