Carlton defender Sam Docherty has opened up on how cancer changed his perspective on life.

Docherty has beaten testicular cancer twice and was awarded the Jim Stynes Community Leadership Award last night at the Brownlow for his work with the Peter MacCallum Cancer Foundation, raising awareness for cancer testing and detection.

“I always think back on my journey and think about how important it’s been to me and developing me as a person, and as tough as it’s been at times, I wouldn’t have it any other way,” Docherty told Neil Mitchell.
