Australia plans to launch 200 satellites over the next two years on reused SpaceX rockets.

They’re being launched to improve the way the nation monitors air traffic.

Dr Brad Tucker from ANU told 3AW Breakfast Elon Musk’s company has made it significantly cheaper to get into space.

“A few years ago, or back into the shuttle days, it cost about $50,000 per kilogram to go into space,” he said on 3AW Breakfast.

“Now, with the way these reusable rockets work, and how cheap it’s got, it sits around $1000.

“And in a few years time it maybe $300-$400.”
