How Australia can make history and beat US in the pool at Paris Olympics
History could be made at the Olympic swimming program in Paris, as Australia looks to be arch-rival USA in the pool for the first time at a Games since Melbourne hosted in 1956.
All eyes will be on the La Defense Arena across the first week of competition at next month’s Olympics, with the build up now in full string following the completion of both Australia and America’s swimming trials.
The Age and Sydney Morning Herald swimming reporter Tom Decent says Australia will be relying on swimmers from other countries pinching gold medals from the US if the Aussies are win the most gold medals in the Olympic pool for the first time in nearly 70 years.

“The way it can happen is if gold medals get taken off the US (and won by other nations),” Decent told Shane McInnes on The Olympics Today.
“The spread of number one rankings (in different events) is widespread across different countries.”
