‘Horrible precedent’: Why the Australian Jewry co-CEO has slammed Ice Hockey Australia
Ice Hockey Australia has made the decision to scrap a major international tournament which was set to be played in Melbourne during April and May due to safety concerns for the Israeli team.
Australia, Belgium, Serbia, Netherlands and the United Arab Emirates were the other nations set to compete, and Australian Jewry co-CEO Alex Ryvchin is not happy with the decision to cancel the tournament.
“It shows where society is right now, how unsafe our streets have become due to this level of extremism,” Mr Ryvchin said on 3AW Breakfast.

“Ultimately, it emboldens the extremists, it shows that the mob, the thugs, the extremists, they prevail … it sets a horrible precedent,” he said.
“It’s the wrong move, and there’s a lot at stake here, a lot more than just ice hockey.”
