Homes to be lost for Melbourne Metro tunnel

The Andrews government has confirmed hundreds of properties will need to be acquired as part of the Melbourne Metro Rail project.

Acting Premier Jacinta Allan has announced community consultation with affected land-owners will begin this week.

The $11 billion project will build a 9km underground rail tunnel to double the size of the city loop.

The government still hopes to receive federal funding for the project.
