Hit-run collision in Hawthorn puts driver and nine-year-old child in hospital

A hit-run collision has occurred in Hawthorn, putting the driver and nine-year-old child in hospital with minor injuries.

3AW Mornings were alerted off-air to a red hot tip about a police incident which was later confirmed.

It is alleged a male driver in a Volkswagen Oroton was travelling along Auburn Road when he collided with a BMW X5 SUV at around 7:20am this morning.

The impact caused the BMW to flip onto its side.

The driver of the Volswagen fled on foot but was later arrested on Auburn Road and is assisting police with their enquiries.
