Health leaders share urgent injecting room message for the Andrews government
A coalition of health organisations and unions is today pushing the Premier to act on his promise to establish a supervised injecting room in Melbourne’s CBD.
The Andrews government made a commitment to open a second supervised injecting facility 40 months ago.

Australian Medical Association Victorian president, Dr Jill Tomlinson, says one person per month is dying of a drug overdose in the CBD, and a facility would save lives and improve amenity.
“That’s 40 people who have died since the commitment 40 months ago to open this,” she told Neil Mitchell.
“People collapsed and dying in front of you is much worse than … having an overdose prevention facility that helps people get off the drugs.”
