Hawthorn coach’s immediate reaction to Tom Barrass trade request

Hawthorn coach Sam Mitchell has commented on Tom Barrass requesting a trade to Hawthorn.

The West Coast defender has officially requested a trade to the Hawks, despite being contracted to the club until 2027.

Speaking on Wide World of Sports minutes after the trade request was made official, Mitchell said he was excited to welcome a player of his quality.

“It’s certainly a positive and he’s a quality player,” he said on 3AW.

“Clubs have to be prepared to hold (players to their contract),” he said.
