GWS gun “priority number one” over trade period for St Kilda
St Kilda has made Greater Western Sydney star Dylan Shiel “priority number one” as the club looks to kickstart its climb back up the ladder, Tom Morris reports.
However, Gerard Healy says the Giants would be mad to let him go.
Morris says there is growing speculation Shiel is going to ask for a trade back to Melbourne over the coming weeks, despite being contracted for next season.
He said St Kilda would potentially offer the gun midfielder as much as $8 million over six seasons.
Shiel’s manager, Paul Connors, hardly put that speculation to rest when he said on Wednesday he wouldn’t be surprised if Shiel asked for a trade.
However, he said any move would have to “work both ways” for club and player.
“That is crap from Paul Connors, with the greatest respect,” Healy said on Sportsday.
“It doesn’t have to work both ways – he is a contracted player.
“If they let another link out of that chain go, then they are ripping up any chance they’ve got at a flag.”
